You are too clever; it is indeed a bordalou - or a vessel for ladies to have a pee into when they didn't have a chamberpot to use. It's a very practical idea. This one was probably for use in a coach as the toughened leather wouldn't break if it got knocked about a bit. I think I may invest in one for the car. You never know when it might come in handy.

Oh well, I was miles out. My first thought was that it was a gravy boat. From the photograph it is difficult to ascertain the size though!
