Ah, too many of you have got it: they're cucumber straighteners. Oh yes, the Georgians liked a conformist salad item almost as much as Brussels. The little cucumber was put into the tube when it was a nipper, and grew nice and straight and fast, because of the glass magnifying the sun. Well done all you clever Georgian Londoners.
